What is black tea?
Black tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which are processed in a special way.
Black tea is the most famous and popular of all teas. It also contains the most caffeine and a certain amount of antioxidants (less than other types of tea).
What does tea processing mean?
Tea processing is an art. It is during this process that its taste, bouquet and characteristics are formed.
Simply put, during processing, it is decided what kind of fermentation process should be performed on freshly picked tea leaves before they are finally dried. Tea leaves contain enzymes. When they are crushed, ground or crushed, the enzymes come into contact with air, which promotes the oxidation or fermentation process. The level of fermentation is determined by the duration of contact of the enzymes with air.
Black Tea Processing
Black tea production involves a complete oxidation or fermentation process.
After picking, the tea leaves are exposed to air for 8-24 hours, during which time most of the water evaporates. The leaves are then rolled up to expose the enzymes to the air and begin the fermentation process. The leaves are then left to ferment until they are completely black. Only then is the final drying process in an oven completed.
